EOS is intended for general, informational use only, as a guide to allow enterprises to find open source software offered by third parties that may warrant further consideration.

Projects were selected based on experience and assessed enterprise readiness. Primary goal was to identify and list projects that solve common enterprise needs and a lot of weight was put on applications, infrastructure solutions as well as components that can be integrated in a great range of business solutions. A selection such as the EOS directory can never be complete therefore we appreciate the input from enterprise users and the open source communities. It’s though important that only project/products that are well presented in the market and fairly complete in terms of feature set are considered for the EOS directory to keep the number manageable. Projects can be proposed via an email through a dedicated dialogue to be found on various pages, e.g. in the "interact" section.

Optaros Ratings are compiled based on the Optaros team's own experience with the software in real-world engagements, our own use and by talking to specialists and community members around the globe, and are intended only to express the current understanding and opinion of Optaros.

User Ratings are provided by the EOS directory users and contributers. Users are asked to follow the same rules and criteria definitions as Optaros is using for its own enterprise readiness rating.

To differentiate true open source projects/products with a license model approved by OSI these projects are marked in the directory with an "OSI approved" sticker. As many projects/products have multiple licenses and can be used in purely open as well as commercially restricted product versions we applied the rule that if there is an open source product that can be downloaded, used and changed following the rules of OSI, we attach the sticker to the projects even if there is also a commercially restricted product available.

Software Descriptions may not provide complete information, or the opinions of all parties, about the activities or users of any particular project. EOS users should therefore make their own informed technical, legal, and practical assessment of the capabilities of the described software and the licensing terms under which such software is offered by the authors and distributors of such software prior to downloading and/or using it. EOS should not be relied on for determination about whether the software described will be suitable for an enterprise's particular purpose. Optaros makes no representations or warranties concerning the accuracy or completeness of the information on EOS and disclaims any and all express or implied warranties or liability arising as the result of your use thereof. Optaros is not responsible for the views expressed by others on EOS.

A key component of the EOS directory are Case Studies. With these implementation successes and learnings can be documented. We expect both open source communities/projects as well as enterprise users to submit case studies through a dedicated dialogue under "Enterprise Use". Optaros will review and publish the case studies if the content is relevant and the case well documented.

Forums allow the discussion about implementation challenges as well as features and other topics. If content and discussion threads don’t follow the usual rules or are not relevant then Optaros reserves the right to remove these inputs. Also we expect all users to be fair, honest and politically correct, when entering comments to the forums. Every user remains responsible for his own entries.
