The application server Zope proves Python's ability to support large environments. With 3.0 a new and not fully downward compatible enhanced version was announced in Dec 2008.

Its a good language, especially if your on Unix. But it in the 2.x series it has some ugly unicode support and many little cross platform gotchas. It works well for people knowing C and wanting to flee from the compiler step.
