We´re monitoring Magento for more than 8 month. We´ve done a lot of beta-testing and now we´re devoloping two online-shops based on Magento. Magento is very well designed, full of features and the community around Magento is very active. In my opinion, comparing Magento with OsCommerce is almost impossible because of the different technologies. Magento is based on the ZEND-Framework which provides a solid software-architecture with the best flexibility. But this is also on of the reasons why implementing Magento means more efforts (time and money). Therefore Magento is mainly suitable for larger shop-projects.
